Employees with self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs) may have to take a few crucial steps this month to ensure uninterrupted service to their superannuation fund.
In line with communications sent by SuperChoice earlier this year, the SuperChoice Electronic Service Address (ESA) service will be discontinued as of 31 March 2026. This change will affect all self-managed superannuation funds currently using the SuperChoice ESA to receive email notifications of contributions. If you do not update your ESA records with your employer and the tax office, you won’t be able to receive employer contributions, process rollover in and out of the SMSF or receive electronic release authorities.
Important: The SuperChoice Clearing House which powers SybizSuper is continuing, it is just the ESA service that is being discontinued.
Anyone who makes use of the SuperChoice ESA must do the following to ensure a smooth transition:
-
Find and register a new SMSF ESA provider if your fund receives contributions. The Australian Tax Office provides a list of SMSF ESA providers. We recommend you visit the ATO website to review your options.
- Inform your employer; you must provide your new ESA to any employers making contributions to your SMSF.
- Inform the ATO; follow the requirements of your new ESA provider in this regard.
- Complete this process before 31 March 2026 to avoid disruptions to your SMSF contributions.
